A Legacy of Legal Leadership in Latin America
The story of Aguilar Castillo Love is a narrative deeply woven into the fabric of Latin American legal and business history. Our heritage provides a strong foundation for our expertise in cross-border transactions, international law, and corporate law.
In the 1820s, Manuel Aguilar Chacón established Bufete Aguilar, Costa Rica’s first law firm. This full-service firm catered to the wealthiest proprietors and substantial industrial companies, demonstrating a commitment to serving key players in the economy. Don Manuel’s vision was inherently regional; his education spanned Nicaragua, his practice extended across Guatemala and Costa Rica, and his marriage connected him to El Salvador. He was also an active politician involved in Central American federation integration efforts and a businessman with investments in mining and coffee. This cross-border, regional outlook has been a core value of our firm since its inception.
Mauro Aguilar, his son, continued this legacy, reopening the firm and contributing to significant legislation alongside Costa Rica’s national hero, Juan Rafael Mora Porras. The legacy of Bufete Aguilar remains an integral part of our firm’s identity.
The Castillo family’s history is equally illustrious. Bernal Diaz del Castillo played a key role in the founding of Guatemala in 1524 and authored “La Verdadera Historia de la Conquista de la Nueva España,” a renowned historical account.
In 1876, two Castillo brothers founded Cerveceria Centroamericana, the oldest and largest brewery in Central America, a company that has become an important part of Guatemala’s identity. This company’s growth into one of the largest business conglomerates in the region underscores the Castillo family’s deep connection to industry and business.
Castillo Love emerged from the union of a Castillo and an American, solidifying our presence in the finance and legal sectors. This combination of heritage and forward-thinking underscores our commitment to providing “timeless intelligence” in our legal services.
Our history demonstrates a legacy of leadership in Latin America law, a commitment to cross-border transactions, and a deep understanding of the region’s business landscape.
